Candidate - FAQ's

What is Executive Search?

An "executive search" is a recruitment effort conducted by an executive search firm working on behalf, and in the best interest of a client company with a specific, well defined position to be filled.

What are some of the misconceptions about search firms?

Employment agencies do not necessarily act in the sole interest of the client company. Some receive payment from candidates for assistance with their job search. An executive search firm never receives payment from a potential candidate. Payment is made by the client company in various manners. Employment agencies do not network as executive search firms do to generate the best candidates possible in the marketplace. At an employment agency resumes may be sent with little screening, with out the candidates knowledge, and possibly without the client company's request. These practices are not conducted at reputable executive search firms.

What happens to my resume once it has been sent to O'Brien & Roof?

Once a resume has been sent to O'Brien & Roof, our recruiters will review the document and assess which opportunities the candidate's background potentially fits. Next, a thorough phone interview will take place between recruiter and potential candidate. The recruiter will then present the candidate with the various opportunities available in that candidate's market. Once a candidate is fully informed about the position and has expressed a genuine interest in an opportunity, a resume can be sent. At O'Brien & Roof, we understand the importance and sensitivity of confidentiality. A resume is never sent to a client company without permission from the potential candidate. Once permission is given, a resume is sent and the process continues from there.

What makes Executive Search firms different from other types of employment agencies and staffing companies?

Having respect for each of our client companies and for our profession, dictates ethical professional service. We accept only those assignments, which we feel confident in successfully completing. We never accept assignments which could result in a conflict of interest. Our business ethics demand total confidentiality and full protection of the clients and candidates we represent. O'Brien and Roof associates work only with the person designated to be our liaison with the client company. No attempt is ever made to contact any other personnel. Proprietary information accessed in the course of a search will be held in the strictest confidence. Likewise, O'Brien and Roof respects the privacy of our potential candidates, by only sending resumes to companies that are authorized by the candidate. Unlike many job search services that "post" or "broadcast" your resume, O'Brien and Roof will match your resume with positions available at our client companies, and verify your interest before sending your resume for consideration.
